Messie is a calm and good natured lurcher, who is ever patient and passive in the face of the students’ attempts to wind him up. In the centre, he is usually found sleeping by the radiator, snuggling with a student, or with his nose in a bin (he used to be a stray!). During meetings, he can be found curled up on our Lead Therapist’s lap. Outside of the centre, Messie enjoys running around after squirrels or herons, and doing whatever he’s been asked not to do.

Mabel is a brindle whippet. She is a registered 'Pets as Therapy' dog, so as well as working with Heartwood House students she also attends her local hospital and works with dementia patients and in the children's ward. When not working, she likes squirrels, squeaky balls and long walks in the woods (where there are squirrels).
Lola would love to be a qualified therapy dog, but
Lola would love to be a qualified therapy dog, but she's too worried about the test. Lola is a good natured cute little black labrador. She's three years old, but she still looks like a puppy. She's a happy little dog, and sometimes she wags her tail so hard that she can't walk in a straight line. Lola loves wandering around the centre searching for food that she can gobble. Eating is Lola's number one hobby. She also likes going on long walks, catching balls, and running around with Messie. Her favorite day of the week is Wednesday when she gets to go to Outdoor Education - this is a great day because she gets loads of treats from the students and she can swim in a lake!
